Comprehensive Agri-food Complex (C.A.A.S.) on an area of ​​000 ha dedicated to the production of industrial tomatoes, fruits and vegetables and associated industry, in Adrar.

In 1992-96 ALCANTARA SYSTEMS built the C.A.A.S. Integrated Agro-Food Project in Adrar (Algeria), consisting of 6,000 ha of agricultural land, a seedbed, a canning production plant and a plastic pipe production plant for irrigation.

The complex is also equipped with auxiliary services: electricity, fuel (installation of a pressurized gas network), water (wells, irrigation reservoirs, underground tanks, pipelines, etc.).

The main objective of this project was the production of 1,200 tons/day of tomato concentrate.

These are some figures from this project, which allow us to compare its scope and importance: carrying out a topographic study over 768,500 m2, construction of 194,700 m of tracks, construction of a system of 561,200 m of trenches, installation of 61,000,000 m of pipelines, 474.60 m of windbreaks, 300,000 m2 of plastic film for fruit and vegetable cultivation, filtration stations with 800 filters and 18,000 m3 of concrete.

The project is located on a 7,000-hectare site, 12 km from the Adrar Wilaya and 7 km from its airport. It comprises different production divisions, as follows:

A.- AGRICULTURAL SURFACE with localized irrigation system.

An area of ​​6,000 hectares, divided into ten identical sectors dedicated to agricultural activities. Each sector has a watertight reservoir with eight horizontal irrigation pumps.

To fill the reservoir, we have planned four wells, each equipped with a submersible vertical pump. To protect the crops, we have installed windbreaks and hedges composed of 10,000 palm trees and tens of thousands of forest trees, including acacias.

B.- SEEDBED
Installation of a seedbed covered with plastic materials, divided into twelve individual sections, in groups of nine, with a production capacity of 120,000 plants/year.

C.- CANNING PRODUCTION PLANT
We have installed a tomato canning plant with a processing capacity of 1,200 tons per day of tomatoes, including cold-break, hot-break, peeled tomatoes, tomato juice, and various sauces. The cannery is equipped with a waste treatment line and a seed treatment line.

D.- PLASTIC PIPE PRODUCTION PLANT

A PVC and PE plastic pipe production plant has been installed in the Adrar industrial zone, also producing drippers.

The capacity of this plant is:
– 800,000 m/month of diameter 16 mm
– 150,000 m/month of diameter 50 mm
– 1,800,000 drippers/month
